Elementary Education Emphasis
All students majoring in Liberal Studies take ten core courses, which are taught by Liberal Studies faculty, and provide students with a well-rounded and interdisciplinary education in the three knowledge areas of Liberal Studies: arts & humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences.
Liberal Studies majors who plan to enter a multiple subject teaching credential program and pursue a career in teaching in elementary school take in addition seven courses as part of the Elementary Education Emphasis in order to enhance their knowledge and to prepare them for the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET). Our students have high CSET pass rates: 85% pass the entire CSET on their first attempt; and additional 5% pass it on their second attempt. The courses taken in the emphasis are from other CSUF departments, such as Art, English, Mathematics, Biology, Anthropology, Sociology, etc.
