Elementary Education Emphasis

All students majoring in Liberal Studies take ten core courses, which are taught by Liberal Studies faculty, and provide students with a well-rounded and interdisciplinary education in the three knowledge areas of Liberal Studies: arts & humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences.

Liberal Studies majors who plan to enter a multiple subject teaching credential program and pursue a career in teaching in elementary school take seven courses in Liberal Studies as part of the Elementary Education Emphasis in order to enhance their knowledge of the multiple subjects. The courses taken in the emphasis are from other CSUF departments such as Art, English, Mathematics, Biology, Anthropology, Sociology, etc. Together, these courses are excellent preparaton for teaching and fulfill the subject matter competency requirements in the state of California. Liberal Studies students no longer need to take the CSET or pursue the Waiver.
