The Liberal Studies Major
There are two options available for completion of the graduation requirements in the Liberal Studies major. The ELEMENTARY EDUCATION PLAN is designed for students planning to enter multiple subject teaching credential programs and pursue careers teaching in elementary school or middle school. The INTERDISCIPLINARY THEMATIC PLAN is designed for students who prefer to explore a personalized program of study composed of courses of their choice. Both plans have the Liberal Studies Core (30 units) in common. The plans diverge in the remaining 21 units of electives. Students who choose the Elementary Education Plan take 21 units of Pre-Professional courses in addition to the Liberal Studies Core; students following the Interdisciplinary Thematic Plan work with a faculty adviser to tailor a personalized plan of study involving 21 units of upper division course electives from departments of their choice. Several advising tracks are available as options for students following the Interdisciplinary Thematic Plan.
